Binaural’s short-term projects are the implementation of a centre for artistic residencies in the rural community of Nodar, a small village in the north of Portugal, in interaction with similar spaces in other European countries and the organization of the second edition of the Pushing the Medium symposium, an international meeting of artists from different areas focusing on the presentation of works on various media but that privilege the use of sound.

Binaural decided to commission a set of interviews with the aim of creating an overview of working methods with various practitioners. From the more traditional idea of recording nature, to the ideas of amplifying the inaudible; from sound artists to architectural theorists – many people are becoming involved with this inter-disciplinary practice that has yet to be fully investigated.

Nilo Gallego
Nilo is a spanish performer and percurssionist with a long background of sound actions, and during the residency in Nodar he will develop a living art project with the help of local shepherds and musicians, following his former similar project "Felipe comes back home with sheeps sounding", that took place back in 1999 at Bercianos del Real Camino, Len, Spain.

About Binaural
Binaural is a non-profitable Cultural Association founded in 2004 with the aim of promoting the exploration and research in sound / visual and new media arts, focusing on the transversality of media and languages and on the articulation between the artistic production and the surrounding context, particularly through its activities in the rural space of Nodar.
The Association holds production, promotion, research and teaching activities with the objective of establishing itself as a platform for experimentation and sharing of theoretical thought in the fields of technology, media and artistic praxis.
Underlying to the activities of the Association is the concern with establishing connections between the sound / visual arts and the social environment, by supporting projects and performative events directed to diversified audiences (familiarized or not with the experimental arts) and that deal with its capacity for generating meanings and building identity and memory.
